The development of gas separation equipment began with the first commercial oxygen generator made in Germany in 1903, and then other raw gas separation equipment appeared. In 1921, the United States established the first commercial plant to recover helium and liquefied natural gas. These feed gas components are variable and unstable (especially under low temperature and pressure), and the physical property calculation is complex, which brings difficulties to the design. Therefore, they are burned as fuel for a long time. It was not until the 1930s that the separation equipment of coke oven gas and water gas appeared that the needs of the fertilizer industry were met. In the 1960s, the United States adopted the liquid turbine expander to make the equipment for recovering light hydrocarbons by deep low temperature method of natural gas, so that the extraction rate of propane and ethane reached 80%, reducing the manufacturing cost of chemical raw materials. Due to the advantages of low energy consumption, less equipment, low investment and high economic benefits, gas separation technology has been developed rapidly.

Gas separation principle: the basic principle of separation is to gradually cool the purified feed gas with pressure or pressure to the condensing temperature of each separated component for separate condensation (single-stage or step-by-step condensation); Or the feed gas is pressurized, cooled. Common gas condensation temperature (at 101.325 kPa pressure).
